So one thing that I’m really amazed at being in Europe is the length of history.

Growing up in the United States, for the most part, we have 300 years of history, 3 dates and maybe 10 names to remember.

I’m amazed walking around Seville of 1) the number of squares that are named after different people, 2)  the number of important dates in history and 3) the length of history.

So there is a square not far from where in live that is named Plaza de la Gavidia. There is a monument to Luis Daoiz. Luis was killed in the 1808 uprising in Madrid against the French occupation of Spain. (Wait, there was a French occupation of Spain? no idea).

It’s also amazing walking streets, that are part of the medieval city, where people were walking and doing their thing during the Roman Empire, the Islamic Conquest and the Spanish Civil War.
