History and Lies

So I’ve been thinking more about history recently. As I’ve mentioned before I’ve been amazed at the history of Spain.
Growing up in the United States, we learn European history. We learn European history mainly from the British / French perspective. I feel like in High School, everything starts with the Roman Empire, and then we get the Renaissance, a brief discussion of the Age of Exploration (mainly from the English perspective), Industrialization, World War One, World War Two, and that’s that. I recall taking U.S. History after 1945, and that was more in depth.
Yesterday, I went to the town (village?) of Carmona yesterday, which is about an hour from Sevilla. Apparently, Carmona has been inhabited as a “city” for about 5,000 years. Meaning it was well established before the Romans arrived.
This fact just blows my mind.
I’ve been reflecting on the book “Lies My Teacher Told Me.” I keep rethinking all that I’ve been told and taught and am having to question, if not everything I know, most of what I know. And that’s daunting.
This thinking and reflecting is also reflected in my novel, but more on that later.
